Interpretive Data

OPIATES TEST INFORMATION:

Methodology:  Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)

Drugs tested:  Morphine, Codeine, Hydrocodone, Hydromorphone, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, and 6-acetylmorphine (6-AM).

Positive cutoff:  20 ng/mL
Drug concentrations must be greater than or equal to the positive cutoff to be reported.

The presence of multiple opiates in the urine may indicate the use of multiple drugs and/or drug metabolism.  Low concentrations of an unexpected opiate in addition to high concentrations of another opiate may indicate impurities in the commercial preparation.  The absence of expected drugs and/or metabolites may indicate non-compliance, diluted/adulterated urine, or limitations of the testing.

A positive morphine result indicates the use of morphine-containing drugs, metabolism of heroin or codeine, or the ingestion of poppy seeds.  A positive hydromorphone result indicates use of a hydromorphone-containing drug or metabolism of hydrocodone or morphine.  A positive oxymorphone result indicates use of an oxymorphone-containing drug or metabolism of oxycodone.  6-AM is a metabolite of heroin and a positive result indicates prior heroin use.

Interpretive questions should be directed to the laboratory.

This test is for medical use only.  It is not valid for forensic or employment drug testing.
