Remarks

Aid in the diagnosis of Graves' disease.

Patient Preparation

DO NOT collect samples from patients on heparin therapy. Samples should not be taken from patients receiving therapy with high biotin doses (i.e. >5 mg/day) until at least 8 hours following the last biotin administration.

Specimen Preparation

1 mL (0.5 mL minimum) Serum from SST or Red Top.
Allow serum to clot in an upright position for at
least 30 minutes at room temperature. Centrifuge
samples and separate serum from cells ASAP.
Aliquot and freeze. Do not thaw and refreeze.
Ship frozen.

Stability (from collection to initiation)

Room temperature: 24 hours
Refrigerated: 6 days
Frozen: 1 month

Unacceptable Conditions

Visibly hemolyzed, lipemic, heat inactivated, samples stabilized with azide, or collected in heparin tubes are unacceptable for testing.
