Specimen Preparation
4.0 mL (2.5 mL minimum) Serum SST or Red top. Plasma EDTA (Lavender top) is also acceptable for both. HCVAB: Aliquot 1.0 mL. Refrigerate. Reflexed HCVRNA: Aliquot 3.0 mL (2 mL minimum). Freeze. Lithium heparin plasma is only acceptable for HCVAB.
Stability (from collection to initiation)
HCVAB Room temperature: 3 days Refrigerated: 7 days Frozen: if not tested within 7 days
Reflexed HCVRNA Frozen: 12 weeks
Unacceptable Conditions
Specimen submitted in frozen SST tubes. For reflexed HCVRNA: Only serum or EDTA is acceptable.
Storage/Transport Temperature
HCVAB: Refrigerated Reflexed HCVRNA: Frozen
