Specimen Preparation
1.0 mL (0.5 mL minimum) Serum SST Red top or Plasma Lithium Heparin (Green top)
Centrifuge immediately after collection to separate plasma from cells. If immediate centrifugation is not possible, place in wet ice bath and centrifuge within 1 hour. For serum specimens, allow to clot in wet ice bath and centrifuge within 1 hour. Avoid placing directly on ice as it may hemolyze the specimen.
Stability (from collection to initiation)
Room temperature: 4 days Refrigerated: 4 weeks Frozen: 10 months
Unacceptable Conditions
Hemolysis. Avoid turbid or severely lipemic specimens
