Quantifies HIV-1 RNA in plasma. This is not a screening test.
Specimen Preparation
Collect 3-4 EDTA (Lavender Top) tubes. Centrifuge and separate plasma from cells within 24hrs of collection. Transfer plasma to a polypropylene transport tube. Clearly label tube as EDTA Plasma. When multiple tubes are ordered submit a separate tube for this test.
Required: 5 mL EDTA plasma. Minimum: 3 mL.
Ship Frozen.
Stability (from collection to initiation)
Room temperature: 1 day Refrigerated: 6 days Frozen: 12 weeks
Unacceptable Conditions
Serum, Heparin plasma, Samples submitted in a frozen plasma separator tube.
