Patient Preparation

VRL req should include patient's full name, ID number, diagnosis, birthdate, and physician.

Specimen Preparation

One 6-10 ml whole blood in ACD A or B (Yellow
top) tube. EDTA or Sodium Heparin (no gel) is
acceptable.
Do not spin or seperate.
Keep at room temperature.
Specimen tubes must be labeled with patient's
full name, identification number, and date and
time of collection.

Volumes for children vary depending on age.
Call 808-547-6127 for requirements.
Pediatric specimen requirements:
infant-5yr: 2-3 ml in peditube only
5-10 yr: 3-5 ml
10-15 yr: 5 ml
Volumes <5 ml must be in peditube.

Stability (from collection to initiation)

Room Temperature: 7 days

Unacceptable Conditions

Lithium Heparin specimens. Specimens stored refrigerated or frozen.

Room temperature
Deliveries may be made between 730 am and
midnight to VRL.
Closed on weekends and major holidays.
