Patient Preparation

No barium enema within 3 days before collection Recommended replication: 1 specimen per day. Obtain up to 3 specimens, collected every other day or within a 10 day frame.

Specimen Preparation

Stool, about 5 mL in Par-Pak Ultra EcoFix transport
media. Add sufficient stool to the vial to bring
the liquid level to the 'fill to here' line.

Stability (from collection to initiation)

Par-Pak:
Room temperature: 2 weeks

Unpreserved Liquid stool
Room temperature: 30 minutes
Semiformed or solid stool
Room temperature: 1 hour

Unacceptable Conditions

Stool Contaminated with urine, water, bismuth, barium, magnesia, mineral oil or gallbladder dye.
