Patient Preparation

Instruct the Patient: SPECIAL URO RISK URINE COLLECTION KIT REQUIRED. Obtain Quest URO RISK Urine Collection Kit specific for RENAL STONE formation diagnosis from the Laboratory. Do not collect the first urination at the start of the collection. Discard the first urine. At end of the 24hr collection period, urinate and include this voided urine in the collection. Follow the instructions that come with the kit. Do not remove sponge from the orange collection container. Do not remove wool from white container. During collection, store orange container in a cool location.

Specimen Preparation

URO RISK Collection kit consists of a 24 hr urine
Orange container and 2 urine aliquot containers.

Item Description: Uro Risk 24hr Urine Container
Upon completion of 24 hr urine collection, mix the
Orange urine container vigorously for 1 minute.

ALIQUOT THE REQUIRED URINE WITHIN 2-4 HOURS OF
COMPLETION OF 24 HR URINE COLLECTION.

60 mL from 24 hour urine (30 mL plain urine minimum)
AND
50 mL from 24 hour urine (30 mL acid urine minimum)

Follow processing instructions below.
1. Mix the orange container vigorously for 1 minute.
2. Fill the two plastic white vials with urine from
the large orange container. Must be filled within 2-4 hrs
of completion of 24 hr collection.
3. Fill and cap vials one at a time. Cap both vials
tightly, write patients name on each vial and place in
zip-lock bags provided (do not remove absorbent sheets).
DO NOT MIX THE LIDS FROM EACH BOTTLE.
4. Complete the patient information.
5. Place specimen in box.

DO NOT SEND THE ORANGE CONTAINER.
DO NOT SEND ENTIRE COLLECTION.
TOTAL VOLUME MEASUREMENT NOT REQUIRED.
For high urine output greater than 3.8L will require
more than one large container. Collect urine in the
first container until 3/4 full and then begin filling
the second container to complete the 24 hr collection.
Follow steps above for each jug and mark one as box 1
of 2, the other box 2 of 2.

Frozen: Unacceptable
