Reference Interval
0.0 - 0.5 mg/dL
Interpretive Data
Both C-Reactive Protein (0236) and C-Reactive Protein, Sensitive (4316) measure the same acute-phase protein, CRP. The only difference between the tests is their analytical sensitivity, i.e., the lowest concentration of CRP they can detect. C-Reactive Protein (0236) is optimized to measure higher levels of CRP consistent with more widespread inflammation as seen in inflammatory disorders, tissue injury, and infections.
In the acute phase response, increased concentrations of several plasma proteins, including CRP, are observed. CRP concentration measurements may be useful in the detection and evaluation of inflammatory disorders, tissue injury, and infections.
