First morning urine recommended. Note that urine is the ONLY acceptable specimen for males. Mid-catch stream urine IS NOT ACEPTABLE.
Special Instructions
This assay is performed using the Cepheid Xpert TV® qualitative PCR technique. The use of this test is for detecting Trichomonas vaginalis DNA and has been validated to be used only in vaginal/endocervical swab and first-catch urine specimens collected in the indicated Xpert Transport Collection Kit.
Vaginal/endocervical swab is the recommended specimen for female patient, where first-catch urine is recommended for male. Mid-catch stream urine IS NOT ACEPTABLE.
The performance of this assay has not been evaluated in pregnant women, women with a history of hysterectomy, or in patients less than 18 years of age or older than 78 years of age. Not validated on throat or rectal samples.
