Specimen Preparation
Thoroughly mix entire collection, then, perform one of the two processing options below: Option 1:Immediately after collection, adjust pH to 8-9 by adding 10 percent Na2CO3. Transfer 1 mL aliquot urine to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL) Option 2: Immediately after collection, transfer a maximum of 4 mL urine to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube prefilled with Sodium Carbonate (ARUP)supply #48096). Patients with urine myoglobin greater than 15 mg/L are at risk of acute renal failure. Usual results are less than 1 mg/L. Results between 1 and 15 mg/L are associated with vigorous exercise, myocardial infarct, mild muscle injury, and other conditions.
