30-100 mg of STERILE chorionic villi, place in STERILE transport medium in STERILE leak-proof tubes (the lab can provide tubes of transport media - call 636-4474). Send a maternal sample (either 3 mL blood in a lavender EDTA tube or 2-6 cytobrushes) with the fetal specimen.
Collection personnel MUST initial specimen container to confirm sample identity.
Minimum Collection Volume
30-100 mg of chorionic villi tissue is needed for 7 day turn around time (TAT).
If a lesser volume of chorionic villi is sent, the laboratory will attempt to perform the test requested. The laboratory cannot assure either a result and/or the ability to perform repeat testing and/or additional testing if the minimum volumes are not met.
If the sex of the fetus is XX, a fetal DNA sample from the lab will be compared to the maternal DNA to rule out maternal cell contamination. There is no additional charge for this service.
