Specimen may be inoculated on culture media directly by clinician:
Body Fluids other than CSF-transfer directly to Anaerobic Purple top bottles - purple label collection bottle (See below)
Avoid extreme heat or cold temperatures
Ambient-storage and transport
Avoid aerobic conditions (exposure to oxygen) Anaerobic swabs must be delivered to the lab within 4 hours of collection.
Any specimen from a usually non-sterile site such as decubitus ulcer, perirectal abscess, urine, and upper respiratory tract specimens.
SWABS ONLY permitted in Copan Liquid Amies Collection and Transport System.

Aerobic bacterial culture must be ordered if ordering an anaerobic culture

Final report - 7 days
Culture negative for anaerobes
Identification and susceptibilities performed on cultures when appropriate
