Acceptable Specimen Collect Alternatives

CSF transferred to sterile specimen container (See below)

Stability (from collection to initiation)

  • Deliver all specimens to the Clinical Laboratory ASAP after collection
  • STAT Courier delivery may be required
  • Transport specimens at ambient temperature (Refrigerated or Frozen is Unacceptable)
  • Call the Diagnostic Infectious Diseases Testing Laboratory at 513-636-8144 with questions regarding transport
Extended storage of the specimen in the lab post-analytical:
  • Ambient:  N/A
  • Refrigerated:  7 days 
  • Frozen:  N/A

Notes

Anaerobe, fungal and/or acid fast culture(s) are ordered separately, may use same sample collection for multiple special culture requests
