Obtain a Myco/F Lytic blood culture bottle from the Microbiology Laboratory.
The recommended volume of blood to be collected is 3 to 5 ml (with a minimum of 1 ml acceptable). Notice that this is different than the volume required for standard bacterial blood cultures.
Collect blood and inoculate bottles as described in Norton Healthcare system-wide policies Policy 5989 Specimen Collection: Pediatric Blood Culture and Policy 5837 Specimen Collection - Adult Blood Culture, with the exception of using a lower blood volume.

Storage/Transport Temperature
Place the inoculated bottle in a zip-lock bag and send to the laboratory at room temperature immediately.
