Specimen Preparation

Specimen should be centrifuged prior to transport. Ensure that complete clot formation in serum specimens has taken place prior to centrifugation. If specimen is centrifuged before a complete clot forms, the presence of fibrin may cause erroneous results.

Minimum Volume

0.5 mL whole blood

Unacceptable Conditions

Grossly hemolyzed specimens.

Stability (from collection to initiation)

Ambient: 8 days

Refrigerated: 14 days

Frozen: 24 months at -20°C (Serum/plasma must be removed from cells or separator gel before freezing.)

Preferred test for screening and monitoring of thyroid function.

Add-On Information

This test may be added to an existing specimen for up to 6 days following collection.
