COVID-19 UTM Collection Instructions

The lab has been receiving specimens without the nasopharyngeal swab placed into the tube. 
The swab needs to be a part of the returned specimen collection tube.

As a reminder, please see the following instructions on how to properly collect specimens for COVID-19 testing.

Place swab in Universal Transport Medium (UTM-RT), leave swab in media, and transport at room temperature for up to 24 hours after collection or refrigerate.

Introducing – ESwab™

Liquid-Based Multipurpose Collection and Transport System Beginning on April 6, 2020, HNL will begin using ESwab™ for the collection of microbiology specimens.
