Plasma, serum separator tube, non-fasting or lipemic samples.
Patient Preparation
Fast 12 hours prior to collection.
Collection Comments
This test requires 4 mL of serum. Collect two, 6 mL Red Top tubes. Allow red tube to sit for 30 minutes to form clot. Spin for 10 minutes at 1100-1300 g in a swing bucket unit or 15 minutes in a fixed angle to separate cells from serum. Remember to properly label tube with patient name, DOB, test and collect date. Separate from cells within 8 hours. Transfer 4 mL serum (minimum 2 mL serum) to a properly labeled aliquot tube and refrigerate.
Use in appropriate high-risk patients (eg, type 2 diabetes mellitus) in whom LDL particle number is being used to guide therapy. Not recommended for cardiovascular disease risk assessment in most individuals; preferred test is Lipid Panel http://ltd.aruplab.com/Tests/Pub/2013716
Performed
