Ordering Recommendations

The Chromogenic Factor X Assay is used for the quantitative determination of factor X, providing an alternate method to monitor oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy when interference of the PT/INR is suspected. In cases of patients receiving both a direct thrombin inhibitor (DTI) and coumadin, response to coumadin may be monitored using the chromogenic factor X assay. This also applies to patients with an antiphospholipid antibody while on coumadin therapy.

Clinical Interpretation

The Thrombosis & Hemostasis Laboratory established a therapeutic range for the chromogenic factor X assay for patients receiving OAC therapy to aid in the interpretation of results. Values between 15% and 51% correlate to an INR therapeutic range of 2.0to 3.5.
