Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the etiologic agent of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). HIV-1 viral load is used to aid in monitoring the disease progress for clinical management of HIV-1 infected patients. This test is not intended for the use of screening for the presence of HIV-1 or as a diagnostic test for HIV-1 infection. Primers and probes are specific for HIV-1 group M. The performance of this assay has not been evaluated with specimens containing HIV-1 group O or N, nor with specimens containing HIV-2.
