It is recommended that the patient fast for 12 hrs prior to collection. Invert tube 8-10 times to mix blood with anticoagulant. Process within 2 hrs of collection. Spin for 10 minutes at 1100-1300 g in a swing bucket unit or 15 minutes in a fixed angle.Ship spun Lt Green or Gold tube. Remember to properly label tube with patient name, DOB, test and collect date

This reflex test consists of a lipid panel which includes a Measured total cholesterol, Total triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, Calculated LDL cholesterol that reflexes to a Measured LDL cholesterol if the Total triglycerides is > 400 mg/dL. The Lipid Pnlw LDL Measured test panel consists of results for the three measured tests in the Medicare lipid panel (total cholesterol, total triglycerides, HDL cholesterol). The standard Medicare panel includes a calculated LDL result, not a measured low density lipoprotein cholesterol result. A calculated LDL cholesterol result is generally accurate when the calculated LDL concentration <300 mg/dL; however if greater than 300 mg/dL, it is suggested that this lipid panel, which includes a measured LDL cholesterol,be ordered.
