Blood, Green Na Heparin
*one tube from the patient and one tube from a non-related healthy control
Preferred Draw Volume
7 mL
Minimum Draw Volume
4 mL
Unacceptable Conditions
QNS;clotted;too old;low viability
Collection Comments
Draw two 7 mL Green sodium heparin tubes (dark green top tubes) one from the patient and one from a non-related healthy control. Invert tubes 8-10 times to mix blood with anticoagulant. Transport the blood immediately to IUHPL Flow Cytometry at room temperature. Samples are stable for up to 48 hours.
Storage/Transport Temperature
Room Temperature Whole Blood Only
Stability (from collection to initiation)
For optimal results, testing must be performed the same day as collection. Please only collect Monday - Thursday.
If collecting on Friday, please have in lab by noon. Samples received in lab after 12:00 PM may need to be recollected.
Ordering Recommendations
The DHR (dihydrorhodamine) panel is ordered to assess neutrophil function when there is a suspicion that a male patient less than 40 years of age may have X-linked chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) or when there is a suspicion that any male or femalepatient may have autosomal recessive CGD. These patients typically present with pneumonia, skin infections, lymphadenopathy, liver and gastrointestinal tract symptoms.
