Cerner order: Type “ Washing “ under specimen type. Option of peritoneal washing will be available to choose in the drop -down menu.
Submitting personnel must verify source by writing on Cerner label and providing signature.
  • Using appropriate sterile technique during intra-abdominal surgery/laparoscopy, instill a physiologic solution into the pelvic cavity. Lavage the area of interest. Aspirate the solution and place in a container of Shandon’s fixative, or add an equal volume of Shandon’s fixative to the specimen.  
  • Tightly cap the container
  • Place patient identification on the container
  • Place in biohazard bag
