Remove a portion of debris from under the nail with a scalpel. Collect the whole nail or nail clippings. Place all material in a folded piece of paper (colored is preferable) secured with a paper clip or in a clean envelope and place directly in a blue capped sterile container. DO NOT send the scalpel blade with the nail scrapings. Direct smear (KOH Prep) not included and must be ordered separately (KOHP).?KOH prep cannot be performed on swab specimens.
