Methodology
PCR
Reference Interval
Reported as Detected, Not Detected or Equivocal
Interpretive Data
The Microbiology Clinical Laboratory implemented a change in methodology for respiratory viral testing by PCR. The respiratory viral molecular test has been changed to the Biofire FilmArray Respiratory Pathogen Panel (RESPP). The RESPP is a multiplexed molecular test that will qualitatively detect and identify different respiratory pathogens simultaneously. The respiratory viruses detected include adenovirus, coronavirus (229E, OC43, NL63 and HKU1), SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A virus (with subtyping for H1, 2009 H1 and H3), Influenza B virus, human metapneumovirus, parainfluenza virus (1, 2, 3, and 4), human rhinovirus/enterovirus, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The bacterial pathogens detected are Bordetella pertussis, Bordetella parapertussis, Chlamydophila pneumoniae, and Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
Please note the direct antigen tests for influenza type A/type B and RSV are available for rapid screening when clinically indicated (Influenza type A & type B Antigen Detection; RSV Direct Antigen Detection).
