Fasting status of patient  must be entered on requisition.

Blood - PST Lithium Heparin,  Lt green top  (3 mL)

Patient should fast for 12 hours prior to collection if fasting lipid panel required.

Plasma should be separated from contact with cells as soon as possible. A maximum of two hours from the time of collection is recommended.

 Store aliquoted plasma at -20 ^o C.  Ship on dry ice.  Avoid freeze/ thaw /freeze cycle.

Gross hemolysis

After separation from cells:

Ambient - 8 hours

2-8 ^oC -48 hours

-20 ^oC - 6 months

0.3 mL plasma (specimens with reflex testing and those with lipemia will require more specimen)
