5.0 mL of whole blood collected in a plain red-top tube (no gel separator).
Specimen Required
1.0 mL serum
Specimen Min Vol
0.5 mL serum
Specimen Preparation
Spindown original tube with its stopper. Tube is only uncapped just before extraction.
Storage/Transport Temperature
Refer to Specimen stability criteria as shown below
Stability (from collection to initiation)
after separation cells:
Ambient
7 days (if tightly capped)
Refrigerated
2 weeks (if tightly capped)
Frozen
1 month (if tightly capped)
Unacceptable Conditions
Specimens that exceed stated stability, unlabeled/mislabeled/mismatched specimens, specimens submitted in leaking containers, aliquot, blood tube spun without its stopper, or centrifuged tubes received without its top prior to extraction
Special Instructions
Do not use alcoholic solution to clean the venipuncture site, you instead can use Betadyne or other non-alcohol germicidal solution prior to obtaining the blood specimen. Specimen tube should remain capped during centrifugation until before extraction starts wherein stopper is removed from tube.
