Preferred: 4.5 mL green with gel (PST), (lithium heparin plasma).
Acceptable: Red or Gold serum separator tube (SST) or Plain Red (no Gel).

Pediatric Collection

At least 0.5 mL blood in a microtainer, green top with gel, plasma (lithium heparin).

Unacceptable Conditions

  • EDTA or citrate anticoagulant
  • Grossly hemolyzed sample
  • Sample not properly identified
  • Insufficient sample volume

Storage/Transport Temperature

Internal: Deliver to lab immediately.
Offsite: Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection. Transport to laboratory at ambient temperature.
