One 10 mL plain green [Sodium heparin] - whole blood

Patient Preparation

Sample should be collected after 0500 and before 1300 Monday through Thursday to be sent to the performing lab on the same day. The blood must be received by the UCH Clinical Lab by 1400 to be sent the same day. The sample must be received by the reference lab within 30 hours of collection for the sample to be acceptable for testing.

Unacceptable Conditions

Frozen samples, Lithium heparin, EDTA, ACD whole blood or gel tube. Specimens received after cutoff time Mon-Thurs or samples collected Fri-Sunday.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Store/Ship at room temperature.

Remarks

The ordering unit needs to deliver the sample to the Clinical Lab ASAP. Testing is 'time sensitive' and must be received by the reference laboratory the same day the blood is drawn.

Notes

Results of the IMMUKNOW (Cylex T-Cell) assay should be used in conjunction with clinical presentation, medical history, and other clinical indicators wehn etablishing the immune status of the patient. This is a qualitative assay; therefore, the result does not quantify the level of immunosuppression.
