Preferred: Stool preserved in 10% formalin (pink vial), Cary Blair (green vial), or C&S media (orange vial).
Acceptable: Stool in a Sterile Container.

Unacceptable Conditions

  • Stool collected in Zinz-PVA (grey vial).
  • Test submitted alongside or within 7 days of a GI PCR Panel.
  • Sample not properly identified, incorrect container, insufficient volume, or past stability.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Internal: Deliver to lab immediately
Offsite: Preserve stool and send ASAP refrigerated.

Frozen: Preserved stool 2 months

Unpreserved/raw stool >24 hours old only with disclaimer (Specimen improperly preserved. Detection of ova and parasites may be compromised).

Remarks

This test is recommended as a screening test before a complete Ova and Parasite test is ordered.

Notes

Testing on specimens submitted on patients alongside or within seven days of GI PCR Panel Plus testing will not be performed.
