Collect

1 swab from each site: Oral, rectum, perineum, genital, eye, and skin lesions.
Collect specimens using a universal viral transport system; instructions are printed on the wrapper.

Pediatric Collection

One swab from each site; NP and axilla swabs from neonates

Storage/Transport Temperature

Refrigerate pending transportation to the laboratory

Stability (from collection to initiation)

Stable up to 72 hours refrigerated.

Unacceptable Conditions

Specimens not in viral transport medium; Specimens received >8 hours after collection

Remarks

Notation of specimen source is required. This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. It has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration; however, FDA clearance or approval is not currently required for clinical use.

Processing - PAH

Send specimen to Central Specimen Processing Laboratory. Prepare specimen for courier pickup to HUP
