Stool antigen testing is the optimal test method for determining the presence of Giardia and/or Cryptosporidium. The Cryptosporidium/Giardia immunoassay test will be performed on all stool specimens requested for ova and parasite examination unless a different parasite is specified and/or travel history is noted. In addition, testing should not be ordered on inpatients who have been hospitalized for >3 days.
Inpatient Approval Requirements
Approval required on patients hospitalized >3 days; please contact the Microbiology laboratory.
Collection Container
