Special Instructions

If testing is requested on a patient that has received a transplant at an outside institution, the following information must be provided: Recipient HLA type, Donor HLA type.

Turnaround Time

Results are reported within 7 days.

Use

Detection of HLA Class I and/or Class II antibodies in patient serum. High levels of HLA antibody may result in difficulty in finding a compatible organ or marrow donor.

Interpretive Data

If this is the first time that the patient is being tested for HLA antibodies, a HLA Complete Typing test (LAB8213) must also be completed. HLA Complete Typing needs to be completed only once.

Collect specimen prior to dialysis. Do not collect specimen if patient has received IVIG recently; this drug may interfere with testing.

Do not process (preferred). If processed, aliquot and send serum. Store at room temperature.

Unacceptable Conditions

Gross hemolysis; immunosuppression drug interference.

Shipping Instructions

Store at room temperature (preferred), refrigerated or frozen.
