     - bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL),
     - amniotic fluid,
     - ocular fluid,
     - tissue or
     - endocervical specimen in ThinPrep Pap Test media

Ordering Recommendations

Test is intended for the qualitative detection and differentiation of HSV-1 and HSV-2 DNA in serum and/plasma samples.

This test cannot be added to a previously tested specimen.

Order when any of the following are present and/or suspected: orolabial infection, urogenital infection, meningoencephalitis, neonatal disease acquired by exposure to infected secretions during birth, infection from herpes simplex virus is suspected

1 Lavender (K2 EDTA), Gold (SST), or Red (Serum)

2 mL blood

1 mL blood

Specimen Preparation

Allow serum tube to clot completely at room temperature.
Separate plasma or serum from cells ASAP.
Note: plasma or serum must be aliquoted into a sterile container
