Invert tube 8-10 times to mix blood with anticoagulant. Process within 1 hour of collection. Spin for 10 minutes at 1100-1300 g in a swing bucket unit or 15 minutes in a fixed angle. Ship spun Lt Green or Gold tube.
If a gray top tube for fasting glucose is being shipped and processed at the testing facility within 1 hour of collection, it does not have to be spun.
Remember to properly label tube with patient name, DOB, test and collect date. Glucose values may be falsely decreased when cells are not separated from plasma/serum within one hour of collection.
