Collection Comments

Invert tube 8-10 times to mix blood with anticoagulant. Process within 1 hour of collection. Spin for 10 minutes at 1100-1300 g in a swing bucket unit or 15 minutes in a fixed angle. Ship spun Lt Green or Gold tube. Grey tube does not need to be spun. Remember to properly label tube with patient name, DOB, test and collect date. Glucose values may be falsely decreased when cells are not separated from plasma/serum within one hour of collection.

Glucose in serum or plasma, free from hemolysis and bacterial contamination, and added preservatives, is stable for 8 hours when stored at room temperature (15-25°C),or 72 hours when stored refrigerated at 2-8°C. Grey Fluoride preserved plasma samples are stable for 24 hours at 15-25°C.

This test reports the serum glucose concentration in a blood sample that obtained without regard to recent food or liquid intake. Glucose is included in both the basic and comprehensive metabolic panels or this test may be ordered individually.
