Ordering Recommendations

The hemoglobin electrophoresis test separates the types of hemoglobin in the sample based on each molecule's charge. In most cases this test can be used to identify and quantitate the types of hemoglobin present in the blood. This test may be ordered when there is a suspicion of an hemoglobinopathy or to assess therapy in a patient with a known hemoglobin disorder.
