Collection Comments

Invert tube 8-10 times to mix blood with anticoagulant. Spin for 10 minutes at 1100-1300 g in a swing bucket unit or 15 minutes in a fixed angle. Ship spun Lt Green or Gold tube. Remember to properly label tube with patient name, DOB, test and collect date. Transfer plasma from Green tube to aliquot tube.

Ordering Recommendations

Lamotrigine is a drug used in the treatment of seizures and bi-polar disorder. This test may be ordered to assess the blood concentration of the drug or when a lamotrigine overdose is suspected. Blood for lamotrigine levels should be drawn in the morning just before the patient takes the medication; if that is not possible, wait at least 4 hours after the most recent dose was ingested before drawing blood for a Lamotrigine level.
