Urine samples collected with preservatives for other assays or timed collections which have not been refrigerated are unacceptable.
Collection Comments
Refrigerate during collection. Record TV and collection dates. A monoclonal peak with no prior data reflexes to immunofixation. Can be performed on either a random or a 24 hour urine.
Anormal results reflex to immunofixation upon pathologists interpretation. The Protein Elp Urn IFE Rflx test consists of a urine protein electrophoresis (UPE) test followed by an immunofixation procedure (IFE) when the pathologist reviewing the initial UPE believes there is a monoclonal band, or a possible monoclonal band, present in the UPE pattern. The results of this test will include the pathologist's interpretation of the UPE and when indicated, also the IFE. Note: It is a Medicare requirement that this test must be ordered if the requesting physician would like to have a reflex IFE performed.
