To arrange for Outpatients and Outreach: fax the order or send message through Cerner Message Center (in PowerChart) to UH IUSCC Pre Cert Team with ICD Code, how often patient is getting it, and J code of the medicine. Place contact number in message or fax order to 317-948-6849, Attention Belinda at the Simon Cancer Center Infusion to have testing done. Belinda will call patient to schedule for testing.
Draw in AM for best results. Draw Pre, 30 min Post, and 60 Min Post Cortisol. Label each tube with the collection date and time. Invert tube5-6 times to mix blood. Spin for 10 minutes at 1100-1300 g in a swing bucket unit or 15 minutes in a fixed angle. Remember to label aliquot with patient name, DOB, test and collect date. Ship spun Orange, Lt Green or Gold tube refrigerated.

Ordering Recommendations
The ACTH or cosyntropin stimulation test, is ordered when there is a suspicion of primary or secondary adrenal insufficiency. The test requires a baseline blood sample followed by administration of synthetic ACTH. Blood is then sampled at 30 and 60 minutes for additional measurements.
