Ordering Recommendations

This qualitative NAAT is intended for the detection of Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A beta-hemolytic Streptococcus) in throat swabs from patients with pharyngitis.

Collection Instructions

Collect throat specimen using ESwab collection kit.

While using the tongue blade, and dual swab device, reach behind the uvula and swab:
1.) both tonsillar fauces and 2.) the posterior pharynx, and 3.) any ulceration, exudate, lesion, or area of inflammation.

ESwab collection and transport kit: 15-30°C; Refrigerated specimens acceptable.

Unacceptable Conditions

Any source other than throat, any collection kit other than Eswab.

Ambient 15-30 °C: 48 hours; Refrigerated 2-8 °C: 6 days
