Patient Preparation

Patient should be fasting for 12 to 14 hours

Collect

10 mL plain red top (NO GEL)
            OR
Lavender top EDTA (NO GEL)
            OR
Green top Heparin (NO GEL)

Specimen Preparation

Centrifuge specimen within two hours of collection.  Immediately after centrifugation pipette 2 mL (Min: 1.0mL) separated serum or plasma  into a labeled transport tube and refrigerate.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Refrigerated
Stable up to 6 days

Unacceptable Conditions

Serum or plasma contaminated with red cells
Gross hemolysis

Stability (from collection to initiation)
