Immediately transfer 400uL of blood collected in EDTA to a 10 mL polypropylene screwcap tube containing 3.6 mL of 32mM NEM, 3.8% SSA, 20% methanol (i.e. the crash tube).
CHOP Staff: Tube should be obtained from Central Processing or the Metabolic & Advanced Diagnostic lab.
External Clients: Please refer to this page to order a Glutathione Specimen Kit. Tubes are stable for 3 months from date of preparation, please use by the expiration date printed on the tube.

Storage/Transport Temperature
*Note: These instructions are for collection of specimens only. Instructions for labeling collection container(s) are found in the hospital specimen labeling procedure.*
1. Primary specimen may be left at room temperature (NOT 4°C) for up to two hours after collection.
2. Transfer 0.4 mL of blood to a crash tube. Ideally, this should occur immediately after draw. As noted above, the maximum time before transferring the primary sample to the crash tube is 2 hours, and the primary tube should be stored at room temperature (NOT 4°C) prior to transfer.
3. Cap tube and mix immediately and thoroughly by repeatedly inverting the tube (6 times).
4. Allow the crash tube to sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
5. Send the filled crash tube back to the laboratory on dry ice. It can be stored frozen at -80°C after blood has been crashed.
External Clients: A Specimen Collection form is included in the Glutathione kit and can be found here as well. Follow the instructions on the form to collect the sample and ship it back to CHOP.
Stability (from collection to initiation)
Stable up to 2 hours at room temperature.
Stable up to 1 year at -80C after blood is crashed in Glutathione Tube.
