Patients should fill-out a stool history form and submit with specimen.

Collect

Worm, proglottid, or object rinsed of debris and placed in saline or water in a clean, leak-proof container.

Specimen Preparation

No special handling required.

Unacceptable Conditions

Refrigerated specimens, frozen specimens, leaking containers, dry specimens, spcimens in diapers or ziplock bags.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Please store at room temperature and transport to lab as soon as possible.

Stability (from collection to initiation)

2 hours at room temperature is optimal. 24 hours at room temperature is also acceptable.

Ordering Recommendations

Wait 7-10 days if patient has received antiparasitic compounds, barium, iron, Kaopectate, Immodium, metronidazole, Milk of Magnesia, Pepto-Bismol, mineral oil. Antimalarial agents, or antibiotics. Gall bladder may take 21 days to clear.
