Patient Preparation

While using a tongue blade, and an Eswab, reach behind the uvula and swab:  1) both tonsillar fauces and 2) the posterior pharynx, and 3) any ulceration, exudate, lesion, or area of inflammation.

Collect

Throat swabs.  Source of specimen is required.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Eswab collection and transport system at 20-25°C.

Remarks

This culture is for Group A, C or G Streptococcus. Culture for Arcanobacterium, Haemophilus sp. or other potential pathogens must be specifically requested.

Stability (from collection to initiation)

Ambient: 24 hours
eSwab: Ambient or Refrigerated: 48 hours
