This test detects capsular antigen of Cryptococcus neoformans/gattii in serum or CSF
Collect
Serum: Serum separator tube or plain red
CSF: 1-2 mL from lumbar puncture
Specimen Preparation
Allow specimen to completely clot at room temperature followed by centrifugation to separate serum from cells. Send the clotted/centrifuged tubes to the lab for testing.
Storage/Transport Temperature
Transport specimen to the laboratory at room temperature
Unacceptable Conditions
Specimens collected in anticoagulants are unacceptable.
Gross blood in CSF
Specimens other than serum or CSF
