The ZSFG Clinical Laboratory performs more than five hundred different diagnostic laboratory procedures on blood, body fluids and other specimen types, providing routine and emergency (STAT) services 24 hours daily. The laboratory is accredited by The Joint Commission and maintains federal (CLIA) certificate and California state license. This department employs Clinical Pathologists, residents, PhD faculty staff, Clinical Laboratory Scientists, CLS Specialists, Lab Technicians, LVNs and other professional support personnel. This department of ZSFG hospital provides laboratory diagnostic services to patients at ZSFG hospital, Laguna Honda hospital, SFHN clinics, consortium clinics, Occupational Health Services and other SFHN affiliated services, generating approximately 2 million billable tests and reports over 4.3 million test results annually.

Expected turnaround time (TAT) from specimen receipt in the laboratory to availability of results in the electronic medical record system for routine high-volume general laboratory tests is 1-4 hours. The target turnaround time for “stat” tests is within one hour of specimen receipt in the laboratory.
