Purpose

Screening test for Gestational Diabetes.

Patient Preparation

  • Fasting is NOT required for this test.
  • Patient will consume a 50g glucose tolerance beverage.
  • Sample collection will occur 60 minutes are consumption.

Collect

Acceptable: Gray (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate).
  • Collect 1 specimen 60 minutes post-glucose load.




 

Specimen Preparation

  • Gently invert collection tube 8 times. 
  • Separate plasma from cells within 1 hour of collection. (Minimum volume: 0.3 mL)

Unacceptable Conditions

Samples collected in anti-coagulants other than those listed above.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Refrigerated.

Room Temperature: 2 days
Refrigerated: 7 days
Frozen: 3 months
