Collect

Preferred: SST(Gold)
Acceptable: Plain Red

Specimen Preparation

Allow serum samples to clot at room temperature for a minimum of 20 minutes. Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. 1.0 mL serum is required for testing plus 0.1 mL for each additional allergen ordered to a transport tube. (Min: 0.8 mL plus 75 µL for each individual allergen ordered)

Storage/Transport Temperature

Refrigerated or Frozen.

Stability (from collection to initiation)

After separation from cells: Refrigerated : 7 days; Frozen: 1 year

Remarks

This test panel includes the following allergens:

Reflex Algorithm

If sensitization occurs for egg white, milk, or peanut in the Food Allergy Panel, then component testing for the allergen(s) will be performed.

"If positive, reflexes to"
egg white: ovalbumin, ovomucoid
Peanut: RARA H1, RARA H2, RARA H3, RARA H6, RARA H8, RARAH9
Milk: Alpha-lactalbumin, Beta-lactoglobulin, Casein
Walnut: Walnut JUG R1, Walnut JUG R3
Cashew: Cahsew ANA O3
Hazelnut: Hazelnut COR A1, Hazelnut COR A8, Hazelnut COR A9, Hazelnut COR A14

Interpretive Data

Even though increasing ranges are reflective of increasing concentrations of allergen-specific IgE, these concentrations may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results when challenged with a specific allergen. The correlation of allergy laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens is essential. A negative test may not rule out clinical allergy or even anaphylaxis.
