Collection Instructions

Use 21 gauge or larger needle. Collect discard tube first (approximately 2mL). Mix by gentle inversions at least 5 times. When collecting from an indwelling catheter, clear line with at least 5mL discard tube.

Collect

Greiner blue top citrate tube. One tube will yield only one test.

Inpatient units may obtain tube by calling Client Services at 758-0510.

Storage/Transport Temperature

Keep samples at room temperature. Must deliver to SMH ONLY within 3 hours of collection. Testing must be performed within 4 hours. Do not send through pneumatic tube system.

Unacceptable Conditions

Clotted or under filled tube.
Centrifuged tube

Reference Interval

A PRU of 208 or less is recommended for patients receiving P2Y12 anit-platelet therapy. A PRU of 237 or greater would suggest a return to baseline aggregation after the withdrawal of medication or would suggest medication resistance in a person recently initiating treatment.
